Paint Supplies
Paint supplies are more than a pot of paint and a paint brush. In fact whether you're painting your interiors or exteriors it's easy to underestimate the amount of work that goes into painting and the expansive range of paint supplies that are used to do the job properly.
If you're thinking of painting your house or maybe even just a room or two, the sort of painting supplies you'll need to think about include:
- Interior and/or exterior paints
- Sealants
- Paint removers
- Scrubbing brushes
- Sanders
- Soap and water
- Cleaners
- Ladders and scaffolds
- Dropsheets
- Brushes
- Rollers and paint tray
- Sponges
- Solvents such as turpentine
- Special-purpose adhesives and stains
Paint supplies are used for a variety of reasons. You need paint removers to clear the surface, you may even need to sand back your surface to get rid of any stubborn marks or uneven surfaces. Then you will need soapy water to clean your surface before it's ready for a smooth paint application.
Drop sheets are needed to line your floors to ensure they are not marked by any paint spills or splashes. It helps to use masking tape to make sure they don't move throughout the painting process. When you begin painting, your paint supplies should include good quality brushes and depending on whether you are painting any details, you will need brushes of differing sizes so you can paint as accurately as possible. The best paint supply for large surface areas is a painting roller, to minimise the amount of time you spend covering the walls with paint.
After you've painted what you want, you'll need cleaning paint supplies. If you have been using an alkyd-based paint, you can only effectively clean your brushes with the use of solvents such as turpentine. You may also wish to use stains on your walls or finishes, and you may also need to get adhesives with your paint supplies to ensure you're doing a good quality paint job.
Most major hardware stores or large department stores are great paint suppliers. You can use our search option to find yourself paint suppliers and paint supplies to help you on your way.

Spray Paint |
Home Paint |
| There are three different types of car paint you can use. The first car paint you can use is nitro cellulose paint, also known as acrylic lacquer, and is the most common finish and can be brushed or sprayed on. This car paint is a toxic paint but if you use the correct breathing apparatus then it is easy to apply. | Spray paint is used for a number of purposes. Spray paint is commonly used for graffiti - street art that uses a spray gun to create artwork in public spaces on surfaces such as walls. It is also used in fine art on paintings and on sculptures. Spray paint is commonly used for giving cars a fresh coat of paint. | Home paint comes in two forms - interior and exterior paint, meaning one is best suited to inside while the other is best used to paint on surfaces exposed to the elements, outdoors. If you plan to paint your home's interiors, then a water-based paint is appropriate for the task. |
Interior Paint |
Exterior Paint |
|
| You can choose between two types of interior paint - solvent-based paint (oil or alkyd) or water-based paint (latex). In addition there are a variety of finishes you can choose for your interior paint such as a matte finish, flat enamel, low-lustre finish, eggshell finish, satin finish, semi-gloss and glossy. | You can choose between alkyd and latex when you are deciding upon which exterior paint is best to use. Latex paints are easy to apply, dry quickly, keep out moisture because they "breathe" and easy to clean up after. |
